MONDAY
On the first evening, the school’s headmaster Jacek Kuzia invited the guests to participate in welcome dinner at Hotel Kameralny in Kielce.
TUESDAY
23rd October was a very busy day at Gimnazjum in Morawica. The headmaster Jacek Kuzia and the headmistress Mariola Kosztołowicz welcomed the guests in the school’s walls. Then, the teachers and the students participated in a short artistic programme. First, the representatives of the students: Emilia Osman and Jakub Król welcomed the guests in six European languages wishing them a pleasant staying in Poland. The school’s dance group Piramida gave a spectacular show “Wild Adventure” with rich choreography. Then, two talented students: Magdalena Chołuj and Kinga Gąsior presented some songs.
The guests were inivited to visit the whole complex of educational institutions in Morawica starting with kindergarten, primary school and gimnazjum. They could observe how Polish classrooms look like, watch some activities while lessons and gain some information about the Polish system of education.
On the third floor, the teachers responsible for developing Comenius project prepared 3 exhibitions. The first one was devoted to our common project “Let’s play together like grandpa!”. The guests could evaluate our works: posters motivating to study the languages of partner countries, family trees, interviews with grandparents, newsletters, the students’ poems about their grandparents, the games’ instructions and equipment necessary for playing the games. Also, the project’s chronicle was displayed there. The second exhibition “The Voices of the Past” was prepared by History teachers and their students and it contained everyday objects from 19-20th centuries from their family collection. The last exhibition “The Treasures of Świętokrzyski Region” presented Baba Jaga (a symbol of the region; witch), regional piece of clothing called ‘zapaska’, jewellery, old paintings and examples of local handcraft and pottery. The participants of the meeting looked with a smile at photos from their previous Comenius meetings in Belgium and Portugal. After a short break, the teachers and the students were invited to participate in PE lessons “Old Polish Games” conducted by three teachers. During them, the four traditional games were presented: dodgeball game, the caps, Cymbergaj and ‘And Old Bear is Sleeping Hard’. Our friends from European countries joined the games and played them together with Polish students. There was lots of laughter and good fun!!
During the first project meeting the results of the schools’ work were presented by the coordinators from all countries. They explained the rules of the next four games and presented useful equipment. Also, they reported about the project’s progress in their institutions.
After the meeting the guests visited the Pottery Centre in Chałupki, 8 kilometers way from Morawica.
The last point of the programme for Monday was dinner in an Old Mill in Morawica celebrated together with all teachers from Gimnazjum. The European guests could try some specialties of Polish cuisine: pierogi with mushrooms or meat, fish, red borsch, cakes.

The students couldn’t wait for Wednesday because it was the day of unusual lessons with their European teachers. Belgian team had a lesson with Grade 4 of Primary school, the rest of lessons were in Junior High School: Portugal- Grade 1; Estonia- Grade 2; Slovenia- Grade 3.
The Polish students had opportunity to learn the most important things about about Belgium, Portugal, Estonia and Slovenia, take part in games and sing songs and even dance together. These meetings were very important because they really motivated them to study English.

In the afternoon the teachers visited the Ethnographic Park in Tokarnia and Cave Paradise near Chęciny. The guests were under impression of stalactites and stalagmites in a cave. They could also learn about local rural architecture in the Ethnographic Park in Tokarnia.
THURSDAY
On Thursday the participants from all countries, the students from Estonia together with the students from Poland and the students’ parents and grandparents participated together in Tournament of Old European Games. There were also the representatives of the local media. In the first part of the event, the students presented the rules of seven traditional Polish games such as: cymbergaj (table football), hopscotch game, the stones, the sack races, rolling of the stove lids, tug of war and the old bear is sleeping hard. The presentation was done in two languages: Polish and English. The second part was devoted to playing old Polish games together with the guests. There were lots of tears in Polish parents and grandparents’ eyes. The moments from their childhood came back and thanks to the old games they felt like the children again. The students, their teachers and the guests had good fun. Everyone was under impression of skills of Portuguese teacher Jose Soares.
In the third part of the event, the European teachers presented their two games and invited everyone to play with them. This Tournament of Old European Games realized the guests and the school community that sport is a universal value and it connects the people and all generations.
On Thursday the participants received the certificates of attendance from headmaster Jacek Kuzia. They were offered some souvenirs connected with the host’s school region. After the last lunch at school they were taken by Anna Litwin and Monika Pabian for a short trip around Kielce- the capital of the Świętokrzyskie voivodship. The guests saw the Homo Homini monument, the geological reservoir Kadzielnia, the Cathedral Church, the monument of John Paul II and they were walking along the main street- Sienkiewicza Street. The last dinner was at Winnica restaurant.
FRIDAY
The next day was the farewell. Anna Litwin, headmaster Jacek Kuzia and the hosting families came to the Kameralny Hotel to say goodbye to our friends personally and wish a happy trip to Warsaw and to their countries. It was a very hard moment.
What will they remember from this short visit? One of the teachers wrote in a project’s chronicle: “Poland is a great country, you are not different from other European countries. Your school is beautiful. Your food is delicious especially pierogi and compote. There are good friends here, the students are so lovely and so kind”.

European Week
Name of the event: Let’s play together like in old times.
Date: 9 May 2012 during Comenius Week
Place: Gimnazjum in Morawica (Poland)
We decided to celebrate this Comenius Week in a very solemn day. The teachers involved in the project entitled “Let’s play together like grandpa!” had an initiative to promote the idea of the European partnership among the schoolchildren, their parents and grandparents and the representatives of the local government. We presented the project, showed the elaborated products and distributed the newsletters about its progress.
A lot of actions were planned for the whole week, eg. tournament of old games, a debate, artistic workshops, a competition and excursions. The most important event was on 9 May- Europe Day. The National Agency from Warsaw appreciated our idea and sent the two journalists to be the witnesses of our festival. They gathered materials to prepare a special article about this event with the photos. The whole school looked colourfully on that day, the students of all classes were wearing the national colours of Poland, Belgium, Estonia, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, France and Finland. They were keeping the flags, the banners and the slogans connected with rivalry in the spirit of fair play. The spectators could hear the “Good morning” greetings in some of European languages. Then, the classes were playing traditional Polish games such as: the dodgeball game, the caps’ game, throwing cabbage to barrel, jumping over the rope.
Everyone could also try to play some of the European games such as the stones (Poland, Portugal), tiddlywinks (Belgium), rings (Belgium) and jumping over the rope (Slovenia); deaf phone (Poland, Estonia).
On that day there was also a debate with the students with their parents and grandparents with their teachers. They were talking about the values which are changing in the world, the role of family, school and local community in the process of bringing up children. The grandparents with a tear in an eye reminisced about their childhood, their school life and were also talking about their lovely games. The students presented their own poems and the songs written for their grandparents.
To call reminiscences there was a special exhibition prepared with everyday objects from the 19 th-20 th centuries. You could see such things as: an old gramophone, cameras, butter dish, the iron’s soul, coins, old photos.
The students took part in artistic workshops held by the local artists: Mrs. Hanna Kuta, Mrs. Zofia Nowak and Mrs.Wanda Zatorska. They presented the secrets of embroidery, painting, making flowers from tissue paper. It was unforgettable experience for the students who were taught in a different way. They really loved it!
There was also a general knowledge competition about Belgium, Estonia, Poland, Portugal and Slovenia. Additionally, the students had to design jewellery typical of these countries.
Thanks to our action, we could promote not only our institution, European project but also integrate the three generations and also support the idea of European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations 2012. Some of our photos are available on the Generations @ schools project ‘s webpage.
